Firefighter Launches New Podcast Aimed to Help First Responders

A Sioux Falls firefighter has recently started a new podcast that is specifically geared toward helping the first responder community in the realm of mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.  Having spent two decades serving several different fire and EMS agencies, and as an active member of the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Peer Support and Chaplain’s Teams, Jon Sanders has come to recognize the need that exists among the first responder community when it comes to mental health and wellness.

This past year Sanders had an idea that he believed would serve firefighters, police officers, and EMS professionals well.  The thought of providing a weekly platform that could share the stories from first responders around the nation who have encountered severe job-related trauma and have battled through issues such as depression, PTSD, addiction, and suicidal thoughts seemed like a good way to help give courage to others who are experiencing similar situations in their own lives.

In addition to his years in the fire/EMS profession, Sanders has also been in pastoral ministry as the Lead Pastor of The RESCUE Church, a non-denomina-tional church with multiple locations in South Dakota, Illinois, and Jamaica for the past 15 years.

Sanders views this podcast as a natural intersection of his two passions of serving people in both ministry and firefighting.  Now that the podcast is up and running, Sanders hopes to see more and more first responders across the country consume and engage the content. Ultimately, he hopes that this show can be the source of hope and encouragement for even just one first responder in their time of need.
