Iowa Firefighters Convention coming up Sept. 3-7
Greetings fellow firefighters - I hope that you all have had an amazing summer! It is always important to take the time to enjoy the days with family and friends!
By the time you read this the state fair is just around the corner. It is taking place Aug. 7-17. Volunteers are always needed to help with the Hall of Flame. Volunteers receive a Hall of Flame t-shirt and a ticket for admission to the fair. You can work your shift and spend the rest of the day enjoying the Iowa State Fair!
We also have the Iowa Firefighters Convention coming up Sept. 3-7. I encourage all to attend and show your support for the convention committee. They have gone above and beyond to preserve the convention. If you are willing and able, we encourage you to volunteer some time at convention helping us
with the various tasks. The sign up sheet is online. We hope to see you all there!
We would like to continue to inform you all of the grant opportunities available. As some may have heard by now the IFA was awarded a SAFER grant. As always, the IFA is finding ways to support our firefighters across the state. Go to the IFA web page to take advantage of the various grant opportunities. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
The IFA has been working for years to obtain a LOSAP (length of service awards program) for our first responders. It’s a program designed to reward and recognize the dedicated service of volunteer firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) and Reserve Police Officer personnel.
A few months ago, the bill was signed by the governor and we need to get the word out. If your department is eligible for the program, do your best to get a plan in place that your members can agree with. Get your cities on
board as well. We hope to see the program used by all. Use this recruitment and retention program to take care of your members for years to come. All information for the program is available on the IFA website.
Respectfully,
Aaron Clemons,
IFA President
