     I want to start this drill with a shout out to the awesome fire department in Decorah for the countless hours they have put into their training facility! It is truly a testament to what can be done when a few dedicated firefighters bring an idea to a supportive department and gain momentum from a strong community!

     About 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 23, Waterloo Fire Rescue was displaced to a commercial building fire at the eBay Store on E. 4th St. Firefighters could see heavy smoke as they left station 1. Upon arrival, flames and heavy smoke were observed coming from the roof.

     Dustin McQuigg, assistant chief of the Beatrice Rural Fire Department, and his wife Tiffany, an emergency medical technician, are very experienced in helping people with urgent medical problems and life-threatening situations. In August, 2020, the McQuiggs confronted a crisis of their own.

     There have been a few changes recently at the Nebraska Firefighters Museum and Education Center. We have a new director, Jennifer Slater. Jen has a background in office management and is eagerly learning all she can about the fire service. Jen is full of enthusiasm and excited to meet everyone who comes into the Museum.

     This is it! My final article for the Nebraska Firefighter as your Secretary/Treasurer. It has been an interesting twenty plus years of being a part of the NSVFA. Good times and great friends and a lot of hard work.

Time to step back

     Nebraska Fire and Rescue members of the NSVFA: As I write this, I have been noticing shorter days so I feel I can welcome all of you hopefully to fall and the start of cooler weather.

Walk A Mile
