Often as a new firefighter, members are curious as to where they will fit in. They joined because they wanted to help people and make a difference. They are anxious to participate in fire and rescue activities. It is often a surprise to them with the amount of training they will need.

This is the time of year people start thinking about year-end charitable donations. Don’t forget about YOUR Nebraska Firefighters Museum & Education Center and Nebraska Firefighters & EMS Memorial. The Nebraska Firefighters Foundation, parent to the Museum & Memorial, is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation.

On Sunday, Oct. 6 the Arnold Volunteer Fire Department held a live fire training at 709 Woodland Drive in Arnold.  The house is owned by Dave and Sally Hildebrandt.

Fire departments from Viborg, Hurley, and Centerville responded to a barn fire at the Tim Flint farm of rural Viborg. Flint was working in a field nearby when he saw smoke coming from the farm place. He immediately called 911 on his way back to the farm.

Good afternoon, evening or whatever time of day you are reading this. It is that time of year when the weather changes, it seems like every few minutes and it’s not changing for the better.

Cooler weather

Good day Kansas Fire Service. As I write this, we are moving into the cooler weather of winter. We started with some early snow in late October in many areas of the state.

I've got your back!

Minnesota Firefighters, Time to wrap it up! As this newspaper hits your mailboxes, I will have about a month left in my fire career. That’s right! I’m calling it quits at the end of the year.
